Ukrainian companies lost 95 millions Euro caused by viruses

According to statistics of UNA® Corporation the number of virus incidents announcements has increased 10 times as compared to the last year. The reason of such sudden change of virus activity is appearance of new viruses the use vulnerabilities of operation systems and applied software. It’s also worth noting that the number of infections with Trojan programs has increased greatly this year as compared to mail worms.The analyses conducted by the experts of UNA® corporation showed that totally the biggest damage was brought by Trojan programs. Their activity became increasing in the second half of 2004 and is constantly growing. In spite of this network worms continue to attack computers of users. Mail worms use methods of social engineering causing number of virus epidemics. The losses suffered by Ukrainian companies in 2004 according to estimate of UNA® experts are about 95 millions Euro. 50% of them (47,5 millions Euro) was caused by Trojan programs, 43% (44,6 million Euro) by network and mail worms and 7% (6,6, million Euro) was caused by other virus types.

Middle businesses suffer the biggest losses, they do not pay attention to information security, the number of computers is growing. Large companies pay more attention to information protection and direct enough financial resources that is why their losses are minimized. Percent rate of losses suffered in 2004 for all fields of activity is as follows:
° Governmental bodies – 16%
° Large business -33%
° Middle business – 33%
° Small companies –12%
° Home users – 4%
